What it is

The California DELETE Act (SB 362) required the state to build a free, public portal where any California resident can submit a single deletion request that reaches every registered data broker at once.

That portal is called DROP — the Data Rights and Opt-Out Portal. It launched in January 2026 and is run by the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA).

How it works

Go to consumer.drop.privacy.ca.gov. Create an account. Submit your deletion request once.

DROP sends that request to every data broker registered with the state of California — over 500 at launch. Each broker is legally required to delete your data within 90 days. The enforcement clock starts August 1, 2026.

What you'll need to submit:

  • Full name

  • Date of birth

  • ZIP code

  • Email address

  • Phone number

Optional fields (improve match accuracy):

  • Mobile advertising ID (MAID)

  • Connected TV device ID

  • Vehicle identification number (VIN)

Is it worth using?

Yes — if you're a California resident, this is the most efficient single action you can take.

One caveat: DROP only covers brokers that are registered with the state. Some smaller or newer brokers may not be on the list yet. The Friday removal guides here cover those gaps.

Use DROP first. Then use the guides to handle what DROP misses.

Not a California resident?

A handful of other states have similar laws in progress. No equivalent national portal exists yet. Friday's removal guides work for anyone, anywhere.
